These words of Paul summarize a lengthy discourse on how the believer lives in relationship. He starts by telling us to live in submission to one another. The result of living submissively (humbly) is Godly power and strength to conquer the challenges before us.

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

(Psalm 51:10-12, NIV)

Most of us remember a time growing up when we were asked to try something new. We may have refused because we had a pre-conceived idea that whatever it was would not be good. Some look at God that way. We don’t want to sell out to him because, in reality, we think we can do it better. Blessed is the one who has learned from personal experience that God’s ways are the best ways.

It’s so easy to base our self-worth on what others think about us. But people are fickle. They come into our lives and leave again. Some are loyal, others are not. There is one who is always pleased with me and will never leave me for all eternity!
