The Book of Luke tells the story of a man that planned a banquet and invited all of his friends to come to this banquet. He was a man of influence. He was a man of great wealth, a man of great power, and he invited all of his friends. He invited a lot of influential people to his banquet, and all of them came up with excuses for why they couldn’t go. And so he sent out another invitation to bring in those that were poor, those that were lame, that were crippled, those that were vulnerable people, and invited them in. And there was still room in the banquet house. And so then he said, go out and get anybody, he said to his servants, go out and get anybody that wants to come, because my banquet feast is going to be, my banquet hall is going to be full. We may question the people that decided for whatever reason not to attend the banquet. It’s important to realize Jesus was talking to believers here. He was talking to Christians, in a sense, he was talking to Jewish believers, and inviting them to this great banquet feast, and they all found reasons why not to come. And I wondered what our reasons would be, you know, we may not say, well, I bought field and I need to go see it. But we may say, I’ve got a cabin, or I’m going hunting, or I’ve got things to do that just I just don’t have time to come into your banquet house. To me the banquet house in this particular story has to do with our fellowship with God, and our fellowship with other believers. We can find all kinds of reasons not to do it. We don’t go to church, because we don’t like that particular style of music. We don’t go to church, because they use the wrong version of the Bible. We don’t go to church, because there are a bunch of hypocrites. Believe me, everybody you know, including you, is a hypocrite. So you may want to kind of ease off on that one. We have all kinds of reasons not to worship God. But God got so much for us, so much that he wants to show to us. Let me encourage you not to let the excuses win. Take time in the Bible, take time with in Christian fellowship. Make sure that you are in churches that preach the Word of God, and don’t just preach to cultural and social ideologies. And spend some time just basking in the fellowship of the great banquet feast that the Master has for you. That’s my word for you for today. Have a blessed day.
