Lord, Your Word speaks to us about the “secret things” and “the things that are revealed” (Deuteronomy 29:29). There are some “things” that we will never understand. These “things” belong to You, Lord. Help us to focus our attention on “the things that are revealed”, the teaching that comes to us from “the holy Scriptures”, the Gospel which brings us to Jesus, our Saviour – calling us to put our faith in Him and live in obedience to Him (2 Timothy 3:14-17).
Each of us have those emotional closets where we put all the ‘stuff’ we don’t want others to see. For some those things are small embarrassments that are really inconsequential. For others they are things we are ashamed of; things we’d never want to come in the light. Some may even warrant legal action. Fear is the primary tool the enemy uses in these situations. The light of Jesus exposes our closet. Not so we suffer embarrassment but so that we can receive his grace, mercy and forgiveness. We need not fear his light. We can run to it for healing and life. His light is life!
Waves have no direction. They do the same thing everyday without meaning. Dashing themselves against rocks and the shoreline, they constantly dredge to the surface things from the past. Meaningless. Directionless. Hopeless. People of faith are never like waves for they have meaning and direction in life. They know that whichever way they are steered is for their benefit to the glory of the creator.
There is a way in which “the survival of the fittest” is true. Lions and other predators often seek their prey among the weak. Those who are too young to run or too old and unaware are the easiest to attack and devour. From a human perspective, the best defense against the enemy is a healthy diet of prayer and God’s Word. Unhealthy Christ-followers who have eaten heartily of worldly pleasures will be to slow and flabby to outrun Satan’s attacks.
I know of a professor who years ago had a colleague saying that he “tried Christianity for a while” but that it didn’t give him what he wanted, so he went off in search of an alternative. Buddha or something.
