So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬

Anointed or appointed?

In reality you are both. Through your relationship with Jesus you are anointed with the Holy Spirit. This anointing comes with appointing.

The anointing is immediate and permanent. Jesus tells us the Holy Spirit is given to us as a seal. We Are adopted into God’s family as sons and daughters. He is our helper. He is our guide. He tells God what we’re going through and helps us understand God better.

But appointing? That may change with time. Jeremiah says God has a plan to prosper us. It’s a good plan. Paul says in Roman’s that it’s a perfect plan and pleasing to us as well as God and others.

No where that I have found in scripture are we are told WE have a good plan for us. Yet, at times the enemy convinces us our plan is perfect for us.

God’s plan takes time. He may ‘appoint us’ at times to do things we don’t enjoy, things outside our comfort zone, things that are way too trivial for someone of our giftedness. Sometimes He may even appoint us to a time of rest!

Be patient. Be open. With each situation work to be a legacy, to make a difference in people’s lives. God’s promises are sure and His timing is perfect. Your appointment today is preparing you for tomorrow!

Thank Him for the anointing, and make a difference in people’s lives in whatever appointing you find yourself in.

Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬ ‭

If you’re like me, when you do something stupid like trip or fall, one of the first things you do, is to turn around to look to see if you’ve been seen. Nobody wants to be seen doing something less than graceful, or intelligent! No one really wants others to see our failures.

But when we do something good, that’s another issue! We look around to see who is looking.

We learned this way back in kindergarten or before! If you do something good, you get a sticker! And it doesn’t matter how old you are, all of us like stickers in one form or another!

Social media is famous for that. When we do something good, the “look what I did” mentality runs deep. It’s easy to get sucked into the mentality that your worth and value are dependent on the number of followers you have, the number of likes you have, or the number of shares or re-posts you get.

As with so many things, inGod’s kingdom, it’s the opposite. God rewards what’s done in secret.

Jesus says don’t do things so others will see them and give you praise. Paul says be patient in doing good because someday you will be rewarded. Other Biblical writers encourage us to do good things in private rather that seek public recognition.

Too often we seek the rewards of man rather than the praise of God. What an awesome thought! God, the creator of this universe, the one who created all of this beauty, wants to praise us when we do something good, and even more so when those things are done in private or without human recognition.

What’s done in public for human praise is short-lived and fickle. But God’s praise for you in private glorifies him, builds on eternity and may be preparing you for bigger things in the future that may be seen in public.

You may not feel appreciated for the things that you’re doing for others. But keep doing those secret things. You never know what God is preparing you for in the future.

It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us. ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭21‬

When the navy commissions a ship, it is a big deal. The ship is built with care, goes through plenty of testing, and is approved to complete its mission.

Most often, commissioning is done for ships that are preparing for battle. They don’t know what battle they will see, or if they will even see battle , but their commissioning means they are ready for anything that comes their way.

The ship is well armed. The ship is prepared for battle. It always stands ready to defend our nation.

God does not commission churches. He does not have a plan for groups of people. He commissions individuals. Individuals with a specific purpose, with specific gifts, tested and prepared for battle.

You are not a product of mass production. You are individually created, tested, and given the resources you need for every battle you encounter. The battles in the workplace. The battles on social media. The battles in physical health. The battles in your mind.

Here’s the thing to remember from today forward. You are commissioned by God for todays battles.

You are his plan A, and there’s no Plan B. Go be victorious!

God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭6‬

When you meet someone for the first time, there are generally two questions asked.

“What’s your name?”

“What do you do for a living?”

Like it or not, we are usually categorized by some according to the answer we give.

Are you a ‘white collar worker’ or a ‘blue collar worker’ worker?

Do you work in the trades or are you an entrepreneur?

Are you homeless or self employed?

In God’s eyes those categories don’t exist. He gifts us, through His Holy Spirit to accomplish great things for the Kingdom.

The church nursery workers are just as valuable as the worship leaders and pastors.

The greeters at the door are just as gifted as the elders. All of us are empowered by the Holy Spirit when we live for Jesus.

The cashier is just as gifted as the business owner.

The person living paycheck to paycheck is just as valued in God’s eyes as the Billionaire.

So, gifted one, go forth. Encourage where you can. Serve where you’re able. Enjoy the giftedness you have because of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit of Almighty God. He gave you just what you need to be excellent in what you do for him.

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬

“FOMO”

If you aren’t up on the latest slang terms, ‘FOMO’ stands for the Fear Of Missing Out. Those driven by FOMO are always looking for new things to enjoy, always afraid they will miss out on the best things, always looking for a new thrill.

They are like a toddler who can’t keep from being distracted by shiny things. They are only satisfied with what they have until something new comes along. They chase after this rabbit trail and then another and the cycle repeats itself.

What’s the driving force for FOMO? It’s dissatisfaction with what one has and the longing for more. FOMO drives one from one thing to another hoping to find lasting satisfaction. That never happens.

People put chemicals in their bodies to feel euphoria but that never lasts so they go back and try again. “Maybe this time…”

They flit from this relationship to that hoping ‘this one will last.’ And so the cycle goes on.

They work for hours hoping to get ahead while neglecting those their health or family only to get fatigue.

The world offers shiny things. Things that entice you but bring no lasting pleasure. Yet we continue to go back to them hoping that feeling will stay. It won’t.

Don’t settle for the temporary pleasures the world offers. Only God gives things that last. You can’t have it both ways. Don’t let FOMO keep you from the lasting fulfillment only God can bring.
