“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
Luke 6:27-28

One of the most difficult commands in scripture is for Christians to love their enemies.  Many of us have experienced unjust situations, and yet Jesus is very clear that we are to love those who hurt and mistreat us.

Jesus tells us that God’s love does not discriminate between those who are good and those who are bad. Loving our enemies is no easy task, yet as followers of Jesus that is what we are called to do. Our love should reflect the love that God has for each person.

Few things to ponder on…

Who are the people in my life that I consider enemies or persecutors?

What must I let go of in order to love them…

When trouble comes, our human tendency is “fight or flight “. Both of these options place us as the solution to the problem. When God is the center of our life as supreme ruler, our reaction to trouble is confidence, joy and persistent prayer.



We often focus so strongly on the problem before us that we can’t see the solution. The level of trust we have in our God determines the ability we will have to wait patiently (for God’s answer), trust completely (God’s wisdom) and act courageously (in God’s power).


We humans measure success by results. God measures success by our level of willingness and availability. When we put the results of our endeavors in God’s hands the pressure is removed.  “Thy will be done…”
